History

The Optimist Club of Senoia is a group of local mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters. Everyone is welcomed and accepted.

We serve the city of Senoia and the surrounding areas. We are a civic organization that focuses on serving youth as well as the area communities.

Some of the Optimist International programs sponsored by the Senoia club are as follows:

* Essay Contest – Annual competition open to youth under the age of 19 (as of December 31 of the current school year) to teach writing and research skills. Recognition is provided at various levels, including a college scholarship at the international level.
* Oratorical Contest – An annual competition for students below the age of 16. It is designed to allow young people to gain experience in public speaking and to provide them with the opportunity to win a college scholarship.
* Respect for Law – Our club recognizes representatives from local law enforcement, in order to focus on our support for the service that they perform to area citizens.
* Youth Appreciation – We sponsor a dinner banquet each year to recognize some of the accomplished students in local area high schools.

In addition to the programs recommended by Optimist International, the Optimist Club of Senoia has sponsored many local programs since being chartered. Some of the local activities that we have supported include the following:

* Jim Nations Memorial Scholarship at East Coweta High School
* Scholarship at Northgate High School
* Student recognition at East Coweta Middle School
* Youth Fingerprint Project
* Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch
* Donations at Christmas for one or more local families
* Senoia Area American Red Cross Blood Drive

Optimist International programs provide meaningful club projects, create identity in the community, and help to fulfill a need in the lives of our youth as well as the adults who elect this opportunity to serve.
