Meeting Information

  1. Where does the Senoia Optimist Club meet?

    As of 2012, our meetings on the 1st Thursday are at Matt's Smalltown Pizza which is now located in Senoia's historic district at 53 Main Street. Meetings on the 3rd Thursdays are in the Cork Room found inside Maguire's Family & Friends Restaurant which is located at 42 Main Street (below Redneck Gourmet of Senoia at the corner of Main and Seavy Streets) - also in the historic district of downtown Senoia.

  2. When does the Senoia Club meet?

    We are scheduled to meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.

Purpose

  1. What is the purpose of the Senoia Optimist Club?

    The primary purpose of Optimist Clubs worldwide is to help the community and the youth in our local area and beyond.

  2. What type of service projects does the Senoia Optimist club perform?

    We perform several of the projects that are sponsored by Optimist International.  These include the Essay Contest, the Oratorical Contest, Respect for Law, and Youth Appreciation.  


    Other projects include the Jim Nations Memorial Scholarship at East Coweta High School, Student Recognition at East Coweta Middle School, the Senoia Area American Red Cross Blood Drive, and the Youth Fingerprint Project.

  3. How does the Senoia Optimist Club raise funds to carry out its projects?

    Our primary fund raisers are:

    1) a semi-annual pork barbecue that is held at the Senoia Masonic Lodge on the 3rd Saturday in March and the 3rd Saturday in October, and

    2) a food concession at the Powers Festival which is held Labor Day weekend west of Newnan, Georgia


    Other fund raisers are held periodically.

History of Club

  1. When was the Senoia Optimist Club organized?

    Our club was chartered on June 6, 1985.  Our charter banquet was held at the Senoia United Methodist Church's Fellowship Hall.

  2. Who were the charter officers?

    The charter officers were Hal Sewell, President; Rev. David Hall, Vice-President; Jim Nations, Vice-President; and Francis Ranwez, Secretary-Treasurer.

  3. How did the Senoia Optimist Club get started?

    The Senoia Club was chartered by the Optimist Club of Fayetteville, Georgia.  Fayetteville President Keith Fugate and Secretary-Treasurer Tom Stephens encouraged men in the Senoia area to organize their own Optimist Club.

  4. Have women always been eligible for membership in Optimist International?

    In 1987 the Optimist International Board of Directors voted to admit women to the membership.

Club Structure - Organization

  1. Are there other clubs in the local area?

    In addition to the Senoia club, there are other 5 other clubs that - together with Senoia - make up our zone.  The other area clubs are in Fayetteville, Peachtree City, Newnan, LaGrange, and Columbus.

  2. What is the Georgia District of Optimist International?

    All of the Optimist clubs in the state of Georgia make up the Georgia District. 

  3. How is the local club in Senoia organized?

    Currently we have a President, Vice-President, Secretary-Treasurer, and 6 Directors (serving rotating terms).  Together these officers make up the Board of Directors whose responsibility it is to carry out the majority of the club's business.


    In addition, various committees are headed by a chairperson who is responsible for the service projects and fund raisers.

  4. What is Optimist International?

    Optimist International is an association of more than 3,000 Optimist Clubs around the world dedicated to "Bringing Out the Best in Kids."


    The headquarters for Optimist International is in St. Louis, Missouri.
